Maruti and Tamil Nadu to set up 10 Automated Driving Test Tracks

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has signed an MoA with the Tamil Nadu Transport Department to develop 10 Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) across the state under its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative. These test tracks will be installed in districts such as Marthandam, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore (Central), Madurai (North), Tuticorin, Krishnagiri, Dindigul, Tiruvannamalai, Sivagangai, and Trichy (West) — chosen based on licence issuance volume and intercity connectivity. The tracks will employ technologies like video analytics, RFID, and HAMS (Harnessing Automobiles for Safety) to enable standardized, automated testing of light motor vehicles and two-wheelers, minimizing human bias. With this, Maruti Suzuki’s total count of ADTTs nationwide will rise to 76, reinforcing its commitment to road safety and transparent driving tests. Tamil Nadu Minister for Transport and Electricity, S. S. Sivasankar, highlighted that the initiative aligns with the government’s aim to promote disciplined driving behavior. Officials expect these tracks to reduce disputes in licence exams, curb corruption, and improve public trust in the testing system. The MoA was signed in the presence of Sivasankar and Home Secretary Dheeraj Kumar, signaling government support for the tech-driven move. Over time, these tracks may support innovations like autonomous vehicle training, driving analytics, and enhanced enforcement of vehicle regulations.
