India finally gets a winning trophy after Asia Cup fiasco — BCCI spares no effort to project it globally

India has at last received a tangible trophy after the chaos surrounding the Asia Cup 2025 final, and the BCCI has gone all out to ensure the moment is broadcast and celebrated widely.

In Dubai, India defeated Pakistan by five wickets to clinch their ninth Asia Cup title, but they did not receive the trophy at the official presentation. Owing to political tensions and the decision not to accept the trophy from ACC President Mohsin Naqvi (who is also PCB chairman), the handover was marred in controversy.

To rectify the situation, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla presented a different trophy to captain Shubman Gill during India’s home Test series against the West Indies. The BCCI’s official social media posted a 108-second video of Gill receiving it and celebrating with teammates.

The board also declared a ₹21 crore reward for the winning squad, linking the victory to national pride and reinforcing the message that India will not be denied recognition. In remarks afterward, BCCI officials warned of a strong protest at the upcoming ICC meeting over the controversial actions of Naqvi during the Asia Cup presentation.

The episode has sparked debates across cricketing forums — was the show of extra effort by the BCCI necessary to heal the Asia Cup embarrassment, or is it an overcompensation? Either way, India now officially holds a physical trophy again, and the board is making sure the world sees it.
