Sports infra allocation triples under DMK govt, says Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that sports infrastructure funding has more than tripled under the DMK government—from ₹170 crore in the previous regime to ₹601 crore now, with total allocation to the sports department reaching ₹1,945 crore. He made the announcement during the closing ceremony of the CM Trophy 2025 at Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The number of participants in the CM Trophy has surged: from 4 lakh in 2023 to 16 lakh in 2025, reflecting growing grassroots sports engagement. Young achievers including under-10 world chess champion A.S. Sharvaanica and Asian swimming champion Benedicton Rohit were felicitated during the event. Stalin credited Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin for pushing sports development, emphasizing that investing in youth and sports is central to the government’s vision. The boost in funding is expected to improve facilities, training infrastructure, and talent nurturing across urban and rural Tamil Nadu.Critics may watch whether the higher allocation translates into shorter timelines, better maintenance, and equitable distribution. If executed well, Tamil Nadu could solidify its position as a hub for sports excellence in India.
