For Diwali 2025, only eco-friendly “green crackers” certified by CSIR-NEERI are legally permitted for sale and use in Tamil Nadu. These crackers emit 30–40 % less smoke and noise. However, authorities report that illegal, high-decibel fireworks are still surfacing in some regions, and strict raids are underway.
