Heavy Rain Likely in 18 Districts of Tamil Nadu – Meteorological Centre Issues Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that 18 districts across Tamil Nadu are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming 24–48 hours due to an active weather system.
According to the regional weather bulletin, a low-pressure area formation over the south-east Arabian Sea is expected to trigger strong moisture inflow into the state, heightening rain intensity.Coastal and low-lying districts are particularly vulnerable; local authorities are placing drainage, relief and response teams on alert. The bulletin also highlights likelihood of isolated thunderstorms, gusty winds and short-duration intense showers across the alerted districts.Residents in flood-prone zones have been advised to avoid non-essential travel, remain indoors during peaks, and monitor official updates.Schools in some of the identified districts may shift to alternate modes or close temporarily if conditions worsen.
Fishermen have been warned not to venture into adjacent seas due to anticipated squally winds and rough maritime conditions.Officials say preparedness is vital as the onset of the monsoon surge coincides with festival travel and public movement, increasing risk exposure.
