Akhalaque, hailing from Katihar district, was working at a construction site in Chengalpattu when local police arrested him in April under suspicion of anti-national activities. Investigations by the NIA revealed he had contacts with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives based in Pakistan and that he attempted to procure weapons to carry out “Jihadi-style” attacks targeting non-Muslims in parts of Tamil Nadu.
The chargesheet names multiple sections including under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for conspiracy, and Sections 196 and 197 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). During raids and digital forensic analysis, the NIA claims they traced his cyber links with LeT handlers and efforts to contact arms dealers.
Authorities say the plan was foiled due to prompt intelligence and inter-agency cooperation. The NIA is continuing its investigation to unravel possible wider networks, source funding, and radicalisation pathways.
