Meteorological agencies have detected a cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjacent Comorin region that is forecast to evolve into a low-pressure area within the next 48 hours.
skymetweather.comThis developing system is expected to intensify the northeast monsoon over South India and contribute to widespread rain across Tamil Nadu, especially in coastal and southern districts.
In its recent forecast bulletin, the IMD noted that many parts of Tamil Nadu already experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places, and further rains are expected to persist. The southern districts — including Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Ramanathapuram and Kanyakumari — have been placed under orange alert while many other districts are under yellow alert, signaling heavy rains in the next 24 hours. For Chennai, the forecast suggests light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, along with partly cloudy conditions. Temperatures may hover with highs around 32 °C and lows near 25-26 °C. The low-pressure area is expected to initially remain off the coast (Kerala–Karnataka), but under favorable conditions it may drift or influence coastal Tamil Nadu’s weather. Authorities are advising fishermen not to venture into adjoining sea areas (Gulf of Mannar, Andaman coasts) due to squally weather and gusty winds expected in maritime zones. Residents in low-lying areas, flood-prone zones and along river banks are urged to stay alert, avoid non-essential travel during heavy spells, and monitor evolving weather updates.
